Blurb:
Some say love is deadly. Some say love is beautiful. I say it is both.
Faith Watters spent her junior year traveling the world, studying in exquisite places, before returning to Oviedo High School. From the outside her life is picture-perfect. Captain of the dance team. Popular. Happy. Too bad it’s all a lie.
It will haunt me. It will claim me. It will shatter me. And I don't care.
Eighteen-year-old Diego Alvarez hates his new life in the States, but staying in Cuba is not an option. Covered in tattoos and scars, Diego doesn't stand a chance of fitting in. Nor does he want to. His only concern is staying hidden from his past—a past, which if it were to surface, would cost him everything. Including his life.
At Oviedo High School, it seems that Faith Watters and Diego Alvarez do not belong together. But fate is as tricky as it is lovely. Freedom with no restraint is what they long for. What they get is something different entirely.
Love—it will ruin you and save you, both.

Diego’s Interview with Faith:
<Diego dressed in ripped faded
jeans and a plain black shirt, tattoos and scars on display. Arms crossed,
sitting in a chair.>
<Faith in white shorts, ballerina
flats, and a spring-green tank. Smiling at Diego, sitting across from him.>
Diego: <latino accent> Thanks for having us on the blog.
<looks
at Faith> That’s what I was supposed to say, verdad?
Faith: Forgive Diego. He’s not the talkative type. <turns to
Diego> Do you have your questions with you?
Diego: I’ll think of them along the way. And before you say
anything like “that’s not how interviews normally go,” I already have one for
you.
Faith: Shoot.
Diego: Why do you look so sexy today?
Faith: <blushes> That’s not a real question.
Diego: Is in my book.
<playfully
stern look from Faith>
Fine,
fine. Relajate, mami. A real question…why did you have that
boring boyfriend when we met?
Faith: Why were you so determined to get him out of the picture?
Diego: <smiles> That’s not an answer, but that’s okay. I know
you were secretly tired of him.
Faith: All you knew was how to make me angry.
Diego: I like when you get all angry. Kind of like now. Why live
life if you aren’t goin’ to live it passionately?
Faith: Is that your next question? <totally knows it’s not his
next question>
Diego: <licks lips> What did you think of our first kiss?
Faith: I thought…I thought…well, you know those moments that reach
deep into your soul? That’s what I thought of it. <Diego leans toward
Faith> But now you better ask real questions.
Diego: Real? Okay. What was it like to live up to other people’s
standards? Being the pastor’s daughter, you had to play dress up for them, act
how they wanted.
Faith: <whispers> It was suffocating. I was drowning. Until
you came along.
Diego: <sees the pain in Faith’s eyes at the memories> How
about we don’t do serious. You can have any superpower, what would it be?
Faith: Probably healing powers— <interrupted by Javier, Diego’s
cousin>
Javier: How come I’m never invited to the fun?!
Faith: Hi, Javier!
Javier: <sits in a spare chair next to Faith> <Goes to
throw arm around Faith’s shoulders>
Diego: You touch my girl and I’ll kill you.
Javier: <laughs> Good to see you too, cuz.
Faith: What are you doing here?
Javier: Just coming to ask questions of my own. Like, how did you
get my cuz to settle down? Just one girl? So not his style.
Diego: Keep inching those fingers toward her and you might lose
some.
Javier: <snorts> Please. So, Faith, how did you do it?
Faith: <shrugs> It just sort of happened. Like fate, but not
as kind. We understand each other. Different sides of the tracks, same pain,
you know?
Javier: Diego, are you actually askin’ her anything interesting?
This doesn’t really seem like your thing. Wait. Let me guess. Faith asked you
to do it and you did. I’m right, aren’t I?
Faith: <laughs>
Diego: Where’s Melissa? Shouldn’t you be with her?
Javier: I have a better question. Who do readers like more, me or
you?
Faith: Um…
Diego: <ignoring Javier> Faith, where did you
learn how to dance so well?
Faith: It started in middle school when my best friend Melissa and
I would dance to music in her room together. Eventually I joined the high
school team and made captain.
Javier: <throws an arm around Faith anyway> <Gives a
wicked, sultry smile>
Faith: <laughs,
knowing Javier doesn’t really mean anything by it>
Javier: Why don’t you show us some of those moves, Faith?
Diego: Here’s a question for you, Javier. How much of a head start
do you want before I actually legit kill you? <Diego stands> <Javier
drops his arm from Faith’s shoulders and runs> <both are gone>
Faith: <alone> Well, so, thanks for reading our
interview. Um, sort of interview. And totally sorry about the guys. They just,
you know, do this sort of thing. It’s been fun! <waves goodbye>
