Summary:
Earth, Fire, Air, Water – they have more power than you dream.

Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread those lies about her, Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys—all the ones she doesn't want. Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water—just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They’re powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.

And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.

Secrets are hard to keep when your life’s at stake. When Hunter, the mysterious new kid around school, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who’s hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

The storm is coming . . .

5/5

I don't know why it took me so long to read this book. I absolutely loved it! It was such a great story, I read it in just over a day. I couldn't put it down.

I thought this was gonna be just from Becca's POV but I was delighted when we got Chris's POV too. I would have preferred it be in 1st person rather than 3rd though. There is a great cast of characters to be found in this book. I loved each and every one of the Merrick brothers. They are just awesome! Even though Michael, the oldest brother, come across as a jerk, I could understand why he was like that. I felt so sorry for him, having to raise his brothers and having all this pressure and responsibility. I'm not sure which brother is my favourite yet. I have a feeling I'll fall in love with Gabriel when I read his book though. As well as loving the brothers I also really liked Becca. She was a tough girl and I loved that she stood up to the Merricks and didn't take any crap from them. Becca and Chris had great chemistry but there wasn't really much in the way of romance between the two. Becca has more going on with new kid Hunter so this did kind of create a bit of a love triangle but it was in no way intolerable. The romance aspect of the story doesn't play a major part. Speaking of Hunter, I want his dog! :P I wasn't too sure of Hunter at the start because you could tell he was hiding something. I wasn't sure whether he was gonna turn out to be the good guy or the bad guy so this added more mystery to the story. Was he the guy that was trying to kill the Merricks?

As I said above, I was pleasantly surprised when the romance ended up not being the main focus. The story behind the Merrick brothers and why they were being targeted took most of the focus. The story is very fast paced with plenty of action and suspense and I found myself glued to my book. Even though it stands just over 350 pages I got through it in no time. It is very well written and the words just flow across the page. Even though I saw the twist at the end coming this in no way made me like the book any less. There are still questions left unanswered but I am sure will we get them in the next books. I love that each book is about a different brother. I can't wait to learn more about them all.

Overall this was an exhilarating story that will have you hooked from the very beginning. Read this book!

EXCERPT:
"So you'll arrest me because I spoke to a guy? Mighty protective of you, Detective." I smiled, injecting a little charm into the turn to my lips. "I always knew there was a reason you followed me around twenty-four seven, Detective. I just never realized it was because you had the hots for me."
A snort of laughter emanated from his dark-haired partner and I tilted my head to address him. "So who are you supposed to be? You the latest sorry sucker they found to babysit this fool?" I pointed a thumb at Fulbright who choked with fury at my words. Not that being polite to Fulbright had ever been my strong suit.

AUTHOR BIO:
I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes… I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each other's loves – it works wonderfully…

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain cross-eyed.

EXCERPT:
Jesse Vaughn was back.
Was he the one who took me home from the party last night? Why didn’t I remember? How drunk was I?
It had been nine long months since I’d last seen him, or even heard from him for that matter. I turned back to face January and Hap in utter disbelief.
“Yep.” Hap nodded with a confirming smile. January’s expression matched her boyfriend’s. They were excited about the possible reunion of Jesse and me. January knew everything that almost happened, so it went without saying that Hap was clued in. I hated to break it to them, but this wasn’t going to be the happily ever after that they’d hoped for. As much as I wanted to run up, wrap my arms around his neck and tell him how much I’d missed him, I couldn’t fight the dormant anger that I’d let be suppressed by the sadness and guilt. He left me. It was bad enough that Garrett was gone, but that wasn’t his choice. Jesse had left because he wanted to. I brought my hands up and covered my face, hoping he would walk back out the door before I had to face him.
“Hey, Lyss.” The tone of his voice was hesitant, surely he knew I was in shock to see him. “How are you?” It was hard to tell if he meant, “How are you? It’s been nine months since I last saw you.” or “How are you after getting completely shit-faced last night?” Just hearing his deep, raspy voice sent a ripple across my skin. I really thought he was gone.
I looked up to see him standing beside our table. He looked the same. He’d let his hair grow out, just a little bit longer, but it was same jet-black color and messy tousled look I remembered. The glow of his suntanned skin led me to believe that he’d been hiding out somewhere sunny as opposed to what I’d assumed, which was that he must have crawled under a rock and died, or fell off the face of the earth. Why else would he have just completely disappeared from my life? Everything that had happened the night of Garrett’s accident flashed in my mind. I couldn’t even begin to form a complete sentence. Instead, I pushed out of the booth and looked directly in the eyes I’d tried to forget.
“Don’t,” was all I could come up with before I ran out of the diner.
“Alyssa, please.” He followed me out the door. “Can’t we just talk?”
“No!” I yelled out, not breaking my stride as I walked across the street.
His hands stopped mine before I could pull the car door open and escape. The contact of our skin sent a shock up my arm. “Please.” I turned to see the desperation in his eyes. He pulled his lip between his teeth and brushed a stray hair from my cheek. His hand rested on my cheek. I caught myself turning my face into his strong, warm hand and quickly pulled away. As much as I wanted to fight it, everything that I’d felt for him was still there. I still wanted him to touch me. To kiss me. The guilt and anger that accompanied the desire was too much.
“I can’t do this, Jesse.” I pulled my face from his and quickly sunk behind the wheel of my car. I drove away, leaving him alone on the street.
I wasn’t ready to talk to him. To ask him the string of questions that had been running through my head for months. To explain my erratic behavior the night before. I wasn’t ready for any of it. So, I did the only thing I could think of to avoid the entire situation. I went home, opened the desk drawer and retrieved my new foolproof method of not dealing with it.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY - Sarah Alderson

Today I am super excited to be featuring the amazing Sarah Alderson. Sarah's newest book, Out of Control, will be releasing in May and I cannot wait to read it!

Title: Out of Control
Author: Sarah Alderson
Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK
Expected publication: May 22nd 2014
Add to: Goodreads

Synopsis:
When 17 year old Liva witnesses a brutal murder she’s taken into police custody for her own protection. But when the police station is attacked and bullets start flying it becomes clear that Liva is not just a witness, she’s a target.

Together with a car thief called Jay, Liva manages to escape the massacre but now the two of them are alone in New York, trying to outrun and outwit two killers who will stop at nothing to find them.

When you live on the edge, there’s a long way to fall.

1) Describe Out of Control in the length of a tweet, 140 characters or less.
Heart-stopping action, heart-melting romance, heart-breaking reality.

2) Where did the idea for Out of Control come from?
I wanted to write about an issue I feel really strongly about: human trafficking. Also I have to admit Ryan Gosling in Drive helped inspire my main character.

3) Do you have a favourite quote from the book?
‘It’s OK to feel things, Liva,’ he says. ‘We’re meant to feel things –
we’re meant to feel everything – hurt, pain, anger, rage, grief.’
My eyes burn. I shake my head furiously. ‘I don’t want to feel those
things. I can’t. It’s too much.’ And suddenly I’m sobbing, endlessly, without
relief.
Jay holds me around the waist with one arm and uses his free hand to
lift my chin. ‘Liva,’ he says, ‘if you don’t allow yourself to feel those things,
then you’ll never be able to feel the good things either – happiness, or joy, or
love. You can’t have one without the other. That’s life. That’s how it works.’

4) If you could go on the run with any of your characters, who would it be and why?
Probably Liva because her father owns a private security company and she's grown up around bodyguards. She's really independent and smart, and she knows how to use a gun, always handy when you're being chased by the Russian mafia!

5) Do you have any tricks or methods you use to encourage your muse?
I read a lot. I scour news sites and magazines like The Atlantic and Salon. I read a lot of newspapers and watch a lot of good TV shows and movies.

6) Out of all your books, which was the easiest to write and which one the hardest?
Interesting question. The Sound was very easy to write. I just really enjoyed it and because I'd nannied in Nantucket and based a lot of the book on my experiences it was easy. Also I've just written a new adult book - Come Back To Me (under the pen name Mila Gray) and that was very easy to write, mainly because it wasn't a thriller so I wasn't having to piece together story lines and twists.

7) What do you like to do when you aren't writing?
Read! And hang out with my daughter. And eat ice cream.

8) What projects are you working at the minute?
I'm just finishing the Hunting Lila screenplay which has been a very intense labor of love stretching over more than a year. I'm working with some great producers who are very exacting on what they want which is good as it's really forced me to stretch myself. I also just finished my first new adult, wrote two new young adult thrillers for Simon & Schuster, am promoting Out of Control and The Sound and am about to start writing a feature film thriller. Yeah, I'm a little busy.

~~~~~~
Author Bio:
Having spent most of her life in London, Sarah quit her job in the non profit sector in 2009 and took off on a round the world trip with her husband and princess-obsessed daughter on a mission to find a new place to call home. After several months in India, Singapore, Australia and the US, they settled in Bali where Sarah now spends her days writing by the pool and trying to machete open coconuts without severing a limb.
She finished her first novel, Hunting Lila, just before they left the UK, wrote the sequel on the beach in India and had signed a two book deal with Simon & Schuster by the time they had reached Bali.
A third book, Fated, about a teenage demon slayer, was published in January 2012.
The Sound, a thriller romance set in Nantucket, was published in August 2013. She has a further three thrillers due for release in the next few years.
EXCERPT:
To know me is to die. I mean, to really know me, like when you know I can run for hours without so much as a water break, or that cinnamon sugar doughnuts are my weakness, or that my dad gave me a whole different name. But I don’t let people get that close. I’ve learned the hard way. Too many people die in my life. Grandma said I was only unlucky.
“It’s not your fault all those people you love die. It’s just bad luck that you’ve had to deal with grief so young. Not fair at all,” she’d said. That was right before she died on my seventeenth birthday and right after my sister Laura, my dad, and my dog Petie.
I direct Mom Number 4 toward the front door of the high school. I always get a new mom when I transfer schools. I have yet to find a school that allows a seventeen-year-old to register herself. I wanted to graduate in Ohio, but too many people started asking questions. They weren’t important questions. Just stuff like, “How come I can’t ever come over to your house?” or “Why won’t you ever talk about yourself?” or when I do, “That’s not what you told so-and-so.” I had to leave. To let people into my life isn’t an option anymore. But, there’re no worries anyone will start to ask questions here. It’s already March. That diploma is as good as mine. Then I can enroll in online college and try to salvage something of my pathetic life.
REVIEW - King Sized Beds and Happy Trails by Becca Ann & Tessa Marie
Title: King Sized Beds and Happy Trails
Authors: Becca Ann & Tessa Marie
Series: Beds #1
Publisher: Cookie Publishing
Release Date: February 11th 2014
Genres: YA Contemporary Romance
Links: Goodreads / Amazon / B&N
Source: Won ebook
Summary:
Book One in the Beds Series
Written by authors Cassie Mae and Theresa Paolo under the pen names Becca Ann and Tessa Marie
Lexie Boggs needs out of her house… away from her alcoholic mother and far away from the “white trash” label that’s been smacked across her chest. She’s saved every penny from her multiple jobs so she can dart out of there as soon as she graduates. But there's something else she wants so badly she's willing to spend every dime she has. Her senior class trip and the chance to seduce the senior hottie, Sean Dixon.
Ryan Parker knows how much college means to his best friend, Lexie. He also knows Sean is a player on a search for how many girls he can get in his bed. So instead of letting Lexie drain out her piggy bank, he forks out the dough to get her on the senior ski trip. Not only because she’s his best friend, but because he’s face-planted in love with her.
When Ryan and Lexie get jammed in the same cabin, with one king-sized bed and a whole lot of history, Ryan fights to keep his feelings hidden, while Lexie discovers some of hers.
5/5
So. Many. Feels!! This book evoked so many emotions I don't know how I'm gonna write a proper review.
I have never read anything by Theresa Paolo but I love all of Cassie Mae's books so I knew I was gonna love this book anyway. And boy did I. This book is just all kinds of awesome and of course so flipping cute. But apart from it being hilarious and really fun, it also packed an emotional punch in the sense that I wanted to bawl my eyes out! Friend-zoned stories always get to me because it's so frustration and unfair and you just want to shake the two characters and make them see what's right in front of them. And the dual POV makes it all the more frustrating cause you know that they both feel the same way about each other but they are too stubborn to realise it.
I loved Ryan. Seriously adored him. He is like the perfect guy. I want one. How Lexie lasted so long without jumping his bones I do not know :P Speaking of Lexie I really liked her. She has had a pretty crappy life and I wanted her to realise what she had instead of what she didn't but I still liked her. She was strong and could stand up for herself but she was her own worst enemy. And I loved her obsession with nail polish. I want to raid her collection :P
And I adored Nate and Kaylee. Those two are hilarious. I can't wait for their book!
So yeah I absolutely adored this book. It is so incredibly cute and will also make you want to have a good long cry. I can't wait for more of Lexie and Ryan! And I may check out Theresa Paolo's books!
BOOK PROMO - Better When He's Bad by Jay Crownover
So you’ve met Rule, Jet, Rome, and soon Nash!  But there’s a new boy in town, along with a new series, by Jay Crownover.  Better When He’s Bad (Welcome to the Point #1) is a new adult novel scheduled for publication on June 17, 2014, by William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishing.
This is how Jay describes her new novel/series:
“It’s dark and dangerous and set in a fictitious underworld/bad part of town. The men in all of the books are way more along the line of being anti-heros than true leading men. I guess the easiest way to sum them up is by saying the books are all about the choices these characters have to make and the outcomes and results of those decisions. Bax’s book is all about having to make the hard choices and what becomes of him and his lady in doing so. They are super fun, very atmospheric and I think really what writing a bad boy should be like if you’re going to do it :)”
Look in the back of Nash’s book to find the first chapter of “Better When He’s Bad.”
Synopsis:
Welcome to the Point
There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.
Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.
Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.
Bax terrifies her, but it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize that some boys are just better when they’re bad.
About the Author:
I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that.
I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.
