Waiting on Wednesday (#22)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine,
which spotlights upcoming books we can't wait to read.

My WoW for this week is:

The Rules (Project Paper Doll #1) by Stacey Kade

Goodreads Summary:
1. Never trust anyone.

2. Remember they are always searching.

3. Don’t get involved.

4. Keep your head down.

5. Don’t fall in love.

Five simple rules. Ariane Tucker has followed them since the night she escaped from the genetics lab where she was created, the result of combining human and extraterrestrial DNA. Ariane’s survival—and that of her adoptive father—depends on her ability to blend in among the full-blooded humans, to hide in plain sight from those who seek to recover their lost (and expensive) “project.”

But when a cruel prank at school goes awry, it puts her in the path of Zane Bradshaw, the police chief’s son and someone who sees too much. Someone who really sees her. After years of trying to be invisible, Ariane finds the attention frightening—and utterly intoxicating. Suddenly, nothing is simple anymore, especially not the rules…

My thoughts:
This one sounds really interesting. I'm really getting in to books about aliens lately and so this one caught my eye. But it's so far away :/

Expected Release Date: April 2013

Waiting on Wednesday (#21)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine,
which spotlights upcoming books we can't wait to read.

My WoW for this week is:

Wicked Kiss (Nightwatchers #2) by Michelle Rowen

Goodreads Summary:
MY KISS CAN KILL.

I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that's changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone's soul...or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don't...I hurt myself.

Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I'll kill him. Then there's another boy, one I can't hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They're both part of a team of angels and demons that's joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I'll be able to help Bishop-or if I'm just another part of the darkness he's sworn to destroy....

NIGHTWATCHERS

When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...

My thoughts:
I loved Dark Kiss so I am super excited for the second book. I can kind of guess who the second boy is gonna be (it's kind of obvious to those who have read book 1) which, in one word, is gonna be awkward! ha! Normally I detest love triangles but hopefully this one will be interesting and not make me want to pull my hair out. On another note, not feeling the cover. Loved the cover for book 1 but this one just doesn't have the same appeal. Maybe it's the pink or the girl, I don't know :/ Still excited though :)

Expected Release Date: February 26th 2013

REVIEW - Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Onyx
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Lux #2
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Published: 14th August 2012
Links: Goodreads / Amazon
Source: Bought paperback

Summary:
Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

5/5

OK so I have come out of my very emotional state to write this review. I swear by the time this series is over I am going to be left huddled in a corner somewhere trying to come to terms with all these emotions that I am feeling.

As you all probably know by now, I LOVE anything written by Jennifer. Anything she has written, I want to read, no matter what it's about. She is just an amazing author.
So onto Onyx. Well. There is so much to say about this book. Ok so first lets talk about the plot. There is no shortage of action here as we are taken on one crazy ride. There were so many twist and turns that you were lucky if were able to hold on for the whole ride. We are introduced to some new characters and you are left wondering if some of them are friend or foe. What we learn about the DOD and in turn about Katy's connection with Daemon will have you clutching the pages to find out how it's all gonna end. There were so any times where I was left stuck between wanting to throw the book across the room or to put it in the freezer. Near the end I didn't want to continue because I was scared to find out of how it would end. Either way I was left an emotional wreck with my heart breaking and my cheeks wet with tears of sadness. How could you do this to me Jennifer?? Why would you do something like that?? (People who have read the book will probably know what I'm referring to).

Now on to Katy. I love this girl, I really do. Mainly cause she's a blogger and has as big an obsession with books as I do. But I also love her spunk and fiestyness. But my god there were so many times during Onyx that I wanted to slap her! I just wanted to scream at her "No! Are you crazy?! Don't do that!" Throughout most of the book she keeps going back and forth between telling Daemon how she really feels and saying that he is only interested in her because of the connection. Em HELLO?!? A hot alien is bringing you roses in class and would do anything to protect you and you're debating whether to give in to your feelings? Are you insane?! If I was Katy I would have given in the second Daemon started to show any interest in me. As Daemon would say "Resistance is futile." Also, some of the situations she got herself into could have easily been avoided if she just used her head. For instance, don't get into a car with someone that you don't fully trust or that you think is trying to kill you. Pretty please. It would save us all a lot of of heartache.

And so that brings me on to our favourite alien, my future husband (What? A girl can dream can't she? :P). We get a lot more Daemon action in Onyx, and be warned ladies, your husbands/boyfriends might feel a bit neglected and get a bit jealous while you read this book because it is HOT! There is no shortage of steamy action involving a certain Mr. Black. He is back in all his muscled glory with a sarcastic mouth to rival even my own! :P He is funnier than ever, so do not read in public unless you want people looking at you like you have lost your mind. No seriously. But we also get to see the sweet and caring side to him which just made me fall even more in love with him. Katy really doesn't know how lucky she is. If you ever get tired of her Daemon, I am always here for you ;)

There will be plenty of tears to shed so have the tissues at the ready and be prepared to go on one crazy journey that will leave you begging for more. And after that ending, you will definitely want more. But I'm almost afraid to read Opal now because I know more tears are going to be shed and I don't think my heart can take anymore. So excuse me while I go rock in a corner somewhere, praying that Opal will not leave me a blubbering mess.
