Waiting on Wednesday (#2)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine,
which spotlights upcoming books we can't wait to read.

My WoW for this week is:

Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:
Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarre connection. I’ve sworn him off even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But against all common sense, I’m falling for him. Hard.

Our relationship issues aren’t out biggest problem…

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And when a new boy shows up a school with a secret of his own, things get complicated fast. I need to choose between my own instincts and Daemon’s.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. Daemon’s never going to stop searching until gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies.

My thoughts:
Is it August yet?? Seriously I need this book NOW! I absolutely loved Obsidian and so I can't wait to see what happens next. And I need more of Daemon. Hurry up August! I can't wait much longer :(

Expected Release Date: August 14th 2012

Cover Reveal: The Vincent Brothers (The Vincent Boys #2)

Goodreads Summary:

He may have given her up without a fight, but Sawyer Vincent is far from over losing the girl he’s loved all of his life. Instead of giving up his best friend and the girl he thought he’d spend forever with, he gave Ashton and his brother Beau his blessing. However, adjusting to seeing Ashton wrapped up in Beau’s arms isn’t easy. Complicating everything even more, Ashton’s cousin Lana is in town for the summer. Sweet, kind, soft-spoken Lana, who gets under his skin. Just being near her makes him forget all about Ashton and his broken heart. Lana is everything he wanted Ashton to be except she isn’t Ashton. She lacks the backbone to stand up for herself and confidence that Ashton wears like a crown.

Lana McDaniel  has lived her life in her cousin's shadow. While Lana struggled with her grades no matter how hard she tried, her mother praised Ashton's intelligence. She hadn’t been blessed with Ashton’s blond hair and flawless skin, but that didn't keep her mother from lamenting her naturally red hair and freckles. But none of that would have mattered if Ashton hadn’t always had Sawyer Vincent wrapped around her finger -- the only boy Lana wanted. Once Ashton let Sawyer go, Lana had been so sure that he’d move on. Determined to make Sawyer finally see her, she'd talked her mother into letting her spend the summer with Ashton. But Sawyer is still in love with Ashton, and Lana isn’t going to be anyone's rebound girl. No matter how yummy Sawyer Vincent’s kisses taste.

I am so stoked there is gonna be a second book! Granted I haven't read the first one yet but it it is on my kindle waiting to be read and I know I am going to love it.

Expected Release: June 5th 2012

REVIEW - Touch by Jus Accardo

Title: Touch
Author: Jus Accardo
Series: Denazen #1
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Release date: November 1st 2011
Genres: YA Paranormal Romance
Links: Goodreads / Amazon / Book Depository
Source: Bought paperback

Summary:
When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.

4/5

This was a fantastic read. The story took off right from the get go. It was faced paced, action packed and had a very sweet love story at the heart of it.
From the very beginning, we are sucked into this crazy, adrenaline fueled world. There was no beating around the bush when it came to finding out what was going on. We learn of Denazen and what Kale is within the first few pages.
Dez was a brilliant protagonist. She is trouble with a capital T! She drinks, hangs out with the wrong crowd, is a complete adrenaline junkie, has an attitude like no other and tries just about anything to piss off her Dad. Her life takes a turn for the worst when she meets Kale. Within the first few pages, the story kicks off and never slows down until you turn the last page.
I loved Kale. He was so adorable and sweet. Having been kept prisoner at Denazen for basically his entire life, he is not accustomed to the real world and most of the stuff in it. He was like a little puppy. It was so cute and funny to see his reactions to the things that we take for granted, like technology and food.

The plot was brilliant. I was hooked and I didn't want to stop reading. I needed to know what happened next. I would have got through it in a day if other things didn't get in the way (like sleep and work). I don't want to get into any more because I think you just have to experience this book for yourself.
I am dying to get my hands on book two! June can't come soon enough!

Teaser:
“He sat up straight, eyes wide, and touched the tip of his index finger to his cheek. "What was that?"
I blushed. "A kiss."
"That's what a kiss feels like?"
"Well, technically. There are a lot of different types of—"
"Show me."
"Show you what?"
"Show me some other kinds."
"You're asking me to kiss you?"

REVIEW - Fated by Sarah Alderson

Title: Fated
Author: Sarah Alderson
Series: Fated #1
Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK
Release date: January 5th 2012
Genres: YA Paranormal Romance
Links: Goodreads / Amazon / Book Depository
Source: Bought paperback

Summary:
What happens when you discover you aren't who you thought you were? And that the person you love is the person who will betray you? If your fate is already determined, can you fight it?

When Evie Tremain discovers that she’s the last in a long line of Demon slayers and that she’s being hunted by an elite band of assassins –Shapeshifters, Vampires and Mixen demons amongst them – she knows she can’t run. They’ll find her wherever she goes. Instead she must learn to stand and fight.

But when the half-human, half-Shadow Warrior Lucas Gray - is sent to spy on Evie and then ordered to kill her before she can fulfil a dangerous prophecy, their fates become inextricably linked. The war that has raged for one thousand years between humans and demons is about to reach a devastating and inevitable conclusion. Either one or both of them will die before this war ends.

If your life becomes bound to another’s, what will it take to sever it?

4/5

I first came across Sarah Alderson when I read Hunting Lila. I loved that book and so I couldn't wait to get my hands on Fated.

I really liked this book. The story was well written and the plot line was very interesting. The one thing I really liked was the changing POV between Evie and Lucas. Even though it was in 3rd person, I felt that I got a better understanding of both the characters, especially Lucas. I felt for both of them, they have been through so much and are just trying to live through each day as it passes. Evie is sassy, determined and a kick-ass heroine. She never gives up without a fight. Lucas, on the other hand, is fierce, gorgeous and completely self-sacrificing. He will do anything to protect Evie, even if it means giving up his life. (Why aren't there guys like him in real life? Why I ask you?)
Alderson has created a world of very imaginative paranormal creatures. We have Mixens (who's skin is acid), Scorpio Demons (you can kind of guess from the name), Thirsters (vampires) and Shadow Warriors. The idea that these creatures come from different "realms" was a very cool and unique concept.

After reading Hunting Lila, I knew that Alderson could write a great romance and Fated proved no different. The chemistry between Evie and Lucas was great and I loved watching them interact with one another. However, I did feel that it was a bit rushed. I would have liked to see them get to know one another a little more before the whole declaration of love. Insta-love stories are beginning to annoy me lately and so this one did bug me but I was able to get over it.

In the end, this was a fun, action-packed thrill ride, with plenty of twist and turns. If you liked Hunting Lila, then I highly recommend this one. Although I did enjoy Hunting Lila a tad bit more, I can't wait to see what's next in store for Evie and Lucas.

Teasers:
"Oh great." Evie threw her hands up in the air. "I'm an untrained demon hunter with only crap half-powers, suddenly expected to go all Buffy and save the world."

"Er, I thought you were here to maybe teach me how to kick some demon butt or something. Because forgive me if I got this wrong but I don't think Chanel garments are going to do it - unless I'm missing something. Are demons allergic to fashion? Am I supposed to blind them with sequins? Give them a cardiac arrest by showing them the price tags?"

Waiting on Wednesday (#1)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine,
which spotlights upcoming
books we can't wait to read.

My WoW for this week is:

Spell Bound (Hex Hall #3) by Rachel Hawkins

Goodreads Summary:

Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.

Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed the first two books in this series so I am really looking forward to the next installment.

REVIEW - Obsidian (Lux #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Obsidian
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Lux #1
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Release date: December 6th 2011
Genres: YA Sci-fi Romance
Links: Goodreads / Amazon
Source: Bought paperback

Summary:
Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

5/5

Have you ever come across a book that you were so excited to read that you kept building it up in your mind to something amazing? Only to be disappointed? Well this is not that book. This book lived up to all my expectations and beyond. It is one of those rare books that suck you in to its world and refuse to let you go. You forget about the real world and all that you can think about is this book. I loved every second of this thrilling story with it's heart-pounding action and sizzling romance.

The story of Obsidian is very unique. I haven't come across many alien YA books and this one immediately caught my eye. The cover drew me in and the summary sealed the deal. I was intrigued straight away. When I began reading it, I fell in love. The way the author wrote this story amazed me. The humor and the dialogue had me hooked. The words just flowed and I found myself entranced.

The characters were the main reason I loved this book so much. They were the funniest and most incredible bunch of people I have ever come across. First there is Katy. The story is told in 1st person from her POV. I love books told in 1st person as I feel like I can connect to the character more as I'm able to hear what's in their head. There are two main reason why I loved Katy. 1) She is hilarious. The inner monologue that she has running in her head sometimes was the funniest thing ever. The stuff she comes out with is brilliant. 2) She's a book blogger! How awesome is that! This girl is my new best friend lol! She has just as big a passion for books as I do and I loved that. If I ever met her in real life I think I would become friends with her instantly. She is such a passionate and caring person, sticking up for herself and never turning her back on her friends.

Next we have Dee, Daemon's sister. She was such a cute character. She has so much energy and such a bubbly personality. I just wanted to hug her she is so adorable.
Finally we have Daemon. Ah Daemon *fans self*. That boy is hot! I think I'm in love. Like seriously, if I ever came across a Daemon in real life I think I would faint. He is just yum! (Ok I'll stop now).
He is arrogant, cocky, sarcastic, and completely drool worthy. The chemistry between him and Katy was fantastic. I loved their scenes together, just the banter between them had me laughing out loud.
Their is no insta-love in this story, but there is definitely insta-lust. I liked that about the book, it made it more real and believable (aliens aside).
The story of the aliens was fascinating. I loved hearing about Daemon's life and how they ended up on Earth. Some bits were slightly confusing but I was able to follow it after a while. I found myself wanting to know more about their life and all the things they could do.

The ending was perfect. It wasn't a major cliffhanger but it left me dying to find out what happens next. Can't believe I have to wait until August :( (I'm very impatient when it comes to waiting for books to come out)

So if you haven't read this yet then em can I ask why?? You are seriously missing out!

Teaser:
I have so many quotes that I loved but here are some of my absolute favourites

"Where have you been?" I asked in a voice that sounded shrill to my own ears.

"Well hello, honey, I've been out boozing and whoring. I know, my priorities are pretty off."
My lips thinned at his sarcastic response. "Dick", I muttered.

“Because this is absolutely insane - the craziest thing I'd ever done. Worse than giving a one-star review, scarier than asking for an interview with an author I'd give my firstborn to eat lunch with, more stupid than kissing Daemon.”

“Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys.”

New Release: Shadows (Lux #0.5) by Jennifer Armentrout

Hey everyone, guess what's out today!
That's right. Shadows (Lux #0.5) has just been released as an ebook. This tells the story of Daemons' brother Dawson. So excited to read this one. Loved Obsidian so I have a feeling I'm going to love this one just as much.

Goodreads Summary:
The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence...and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

Cover Reveal: Inbetween (Kissed by Death #1)

Goodreads Summary:
Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky—and unending—lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left...his soul.

Came across the cover for this today and I have to say I'm really liking it. The synopsis has me very intrigued and I can't wait to read this book.

3.5/5

Fantastic!! That is the only way to describe this book. I loved it so much I didn't want it to end.

I am a major fan of werewolf books and this one ticked all the right boxes. It had suspense, romance, action, and a whole lot more. I was on the edge of my seat while reading it.
The story follows Charlotte as she tries to understand what is happening to her. Ever since she was attacked by an animal when she was young, she has had the feeling of being followed. By wolves. She doesn't know whether it's post traumatic stress or if she really is being followed. Then she meets Liam. And her life is turned upside down.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. There were so many twists and turns I didn't know what was going to happen next. The story line was amazing. It was really unique and the writing just flowed. I loved the characters, they were such a crazy group of people. I loved them all.

One thing that did annoy me though was the love story. For most of the book Charlotte keeps jumping back and forth between trusting and fearing Liam. Then all of a sudden she says she loves him. I don't get it. How can she say she loves him if she doesn't even know if she can trust him. Confusing but I got over it. Everything else in this book was amazing that I was able to overlook that little annoyance.
I don't know if this is the first of a series but I really, really, really hope it is! There were so many things left unresolved and questions left unanswered. I want more! Please let there be a second book!!

Anyone who loves a good werewolf book needs to get this one! Seriously!! :)

Teaser:
“Maybe you shouldn’t kiss me,” I whispered.
“I’d rather die.”
My chest swelled and every wall in me crumbled.
