BLOG TOUR - Just Call Me Ninja by Clare Haltom (Guest Post & Giveaway)

Just Call Me Ninja by Clare Haltom
Publication: April 2014
Genres: Young Adult, Thriller
Synopsis:
Sophomore Callista Trent is used to being the anonymous new girl. But when her mother’s nomadic job finally keeps her family in one place long enough to force Callista to settle in, she wants none of it. She doesn’t expect it to last, anyway—it never does.

She also doesn’t expect to stumble across a group of shinobi, modern-day ninjas who also happen to be high school students. Or for them to claim destiny sent her to join them. Or for the hot, harmonica-playing loner from her chemistry class to be one of the instructors.

For once, she starts to think that maybe she could belong somewhere. But she quickly learns her new friends aren’t running some casual karate school. And when Callista’s assigned to a dangerous mission they say only she can complete, she begins to suspect it wasn’t destiny that brought her to the shinobi at all but a carefully laid plan. Oh, and the worst part? The boy she thought she could trust may have known the truth all along.

My Top Ten Favorite Things by Clare Haltom

1) Chocolate Oranges. You know, those things you get at Christmas and you have to slam them on the table to break them into segments. Seriously, I horde them in the freezer and parcel them out throughout the year.

2) Porch swings. One of my favorite memories as a kid was sitting out on the porch swing at my nana’s house as the thunder storms rolled in over the mountains. Wind rustling through the aspen trees made it even better.

3) Reading. I always have a book I am devouring. Sometimes, two or three. I read everywhere. On my phone in line at the grocery store, or while I’m waiting for the shower to warm up, secretly during church.

4) Travel. While I can’t claim to have been to nearly as many places as my heroine in Just Call Me Ninja, I wish I could. There is something so cool about being able dip into a new culture. Getting lost exploring, trying the street food, embarrassing myself trying to speak a new language.

5) Naps. Oh, naps, I wish I could see more of you. And I always have to be under my blankets even if it means cranking up the A.C.

6) Eating out. I grew up in a family of eight kids, so even going to McDonalds was a big deal in our lives (and my parents’ piggy bank). But now I search for excuses to go out to eat. Did a load of laundry? Celebrate by going out to eat. Friends want to meet up? Let’s do it at a restaurant. Ate a pizza? Let’s go get cheeseburgers.

7) My Birthday. How can anyone not love the day that is all about them? I am one of those people who gives everyone an obnoxious countdown of the days until my birthday. And my birthday is no longer just one day, the whole week around it has turned into Birth-Ganza!

8) Pedicures. I’m not a high maintenance kind of girl, but I adore having my toes done, especially with little flowers and sparklies.

9) Nerdy television. I am a total card carrying nerd. I love Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Doctor Who, and Supernatural. I have watched Firefly a dozen times. I have seen ever incarnation of Star Trek. I may or may not have owned Klingon language tapes as a teenager.

10) Writing. I guess it makes sense since I decided to be a writer, but I love spilling the wild fantasies out of my head and onto paper. I love the ah-ha moment when I figure out a plot point, or one of my characters does something I don’t expect. I love editing a scene until it finally makes the point I intended all along. I also love having an excuse to go to work in yoga pants every day. I love seeing a blank computer screen fill up with glorious, wonderful words!
