Donate Body to Science. Check.
When seventeen-year-old Kaitlyn checked the box, she never suspected she’d have her life–and her body–stolen from her. She awakens one day in a secret laboratory to discover that her body is now half-robot and is forced to hide her own secret: that she still has human emotions and a human mind. If the scientists who made her find out, they’ll erase what remains of who she was.

Kaitlyn finds an unlikely ally in Lucas, a handsome, brilliant scientist who can’t get over the guilt he feels knowing she was once a vibrant, beautiful young woman. He never expected a science project to affect him the way she does. As he tries to help her rediscover her past, he finds himself falling for the brave girl struggling to find her place and acceptance between the human and computer worlds.

I'm going to start off by saying that I started this book with a bit of trepidation. You see I had had recently read another book by Crane, Eternal Youth and I have to say I didn't love it. I was left disappointed when I finished the book and so I was a bit worried that this book would be the same. But I am glad to say that is not the case. I loved this book! It was everything I was hoping it would be.

Freak of Nature tells the story of Kaitlyn, a young girl who was moment ago on deaths door, only to find that she is now a cyborg. She was made to be the ultimate soldier, with no emotions or family ties. She is meant to be cold and heartless. But somehow, somewhere, something went wrong. They made a fatal error - Kaitlyn can feel. She does have emotions. But no one must ever know. For if they did, they would take those emotions away from, or worse, shut her down. So she plays the good little robot. But its not so easy when she's around Lucas. He makes her feel things that she can't explain. Things she shouldn't feel. And even though Lucas is one of the scientists that have made her this way, he can't stop the feelings that he has this amazing creature. Can they ever find a way to be together? Or will Kaitlyn be for ever more just a lonely girl trapped in a robots body.

The story found in this book is something I've never read about before. So immediately I was so intrigued by how the story would play out. It switches POV between Kaitlyn and Lucas which I really liked. I loved getting Lucas' side of things. I always say that there are two sides to every story. I loved both characters. You really feel for both of them, especially Kaitlyn. You are just so sad for her and keep hoping that the scientists won't find out about her feelings and shut her down. Lucas I liked because he felt so believable. You understand why he did some of the things he did. I also liked that he was kind of shy and awkward. It just made him even cuter.
The story itself isn't that action-packed or suspenseful. It focus more building up the back-story and the love aspect. But this is the first book in a series so hopefully the next book will be more action-packed and we'll get to see more of Kaitlyn in action with all her enhanced traits.

This was a quick and very enjoyable read and a great introductory book. I am really looking forward to the next installment. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique read with a sweet romance.
