Contingency Blog Tour: Author Interview and Giveaway

About the Author:

Peggy Martinez is a homeschooling mom of one boy and four girls. She has been married to
her soul mate, Omar, since January 2000. She enjoys reading, writing, soap making, all things
aromatherapy, and Twizzlers- lots of Twizzlers.

Book Summary:
Eighteen-year-old Sage Hannigan wants to get back to her own time, preferably one that hasn’t been destroyed by an underworld plot brewing in Edwardian-era South Carolina. How hard can it be?

All she has to do is:

1. Learn to use newly acquired warping skills to bend time to her will.
2. Take out a few rogue vampires.
3. Join an ancient secret society.
4. Figure out who is putting the time stream in jeopardy.
5. Find and maim whoever invented the corset.

Sage never asked to be chosen by the Druid Priestess, Amerach, to become a Warper and she never asked to have the future hanging on her shoulders or to warp a hundred years into the past. She certainly never asked to meet Dr. Aldwin Blake, who would make her question her desire to get back to her own time. But if she fails her mission, people will die, history will change, and the present she wishes to return to will be no more.

Author Interview

First off I want to say congratulations on your first book! What inspired you to start writing?
Thanks so much! I'd have to say that my children inspire me, my husband inspires me, and my passion for reading, story telling, and magical worlds inspire me.

What made you decide to write a YA book?
I really enjoy reading Young Adult books and I've found that I also enjoy writing stories that involve young adults and all the things they struggle with. There are a ton of things that people never really grow out and deal with every day that Young Adult books cover.

Who/what are some of your favorite authors/books?
Ah. There are SO many. I enjoy anything by Karen Marie Moning, Maria V. Snyder, Charlaine Harris, Jana Oliver, and many other Authors. Some of my favorite books are: Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, the Fever Series, the Sookie Stackhouse series, Jane Yellowrock Series, The Hollows series.... um yeah, I could go on and on!

How did you come up with the idea for your book?
The idea was just a little tiny thought in the back of my mind before I sat down to write. I knew I wanted to write a strong heroine, I knew I wanted to write time travel, and I knew I wanted it to have paranormal aspects....but I didn't have any idea where my story was headed until I started writing, deleting, writing, deleting, and then writing some more.

Are any of the characters based on real people?
No, not really. My little sister said she thinks I am kind of like the main character, Sage, but I don't see it, unless you count our mutual love of mint chocolate chip ice cream. :)

How long did it take to write Contingency?
It took me about two months to write the first draft of Contingency. I have edited and rewritten it a couple times over a month's time. So, three months start to finish.

Will this book be a standalone or the first in a series?
This is the first in a planned trilogy. I have book #2 outlined and NO idea where book #3 will go. I like to figure it out as I go sometimes.

What do you like to do when you are not reading or writing?
I enjoy sewing, soap making, learning about chakras and positive energy. I have five kids, so I spend a ton of time homeschooling and enjoying their company.

Do you have a particular time of day that you like to write?
I usually write from 9pm to 1am. My kids all go to bed at 8pm and I get started around 9pm, although, by the time I piddle on the internet for an hour I probably start actual writing at 10pm.

What are some of your hopes for the future as an author?
I hope people enjoy my stories. I hope to finish Sage's story and I have some big plans for another series as well.
