Publisher: Entangled Teen
Pub. Date: March 4, 2014

Sixteen-year-old Selena Fallon is a dreamer. Not a daydreamer, but an I-see-the-future kind of dreamer. Normally, this is not a problem, as she has gotten pretty good at keeping her weird card hidden from everyone in her small town. But when Selena dreams of her own rather bloody death, things get a little too freaky—even for her.

Enter Dillan Sloan. Selena has seen the new guy in a different dream, and he is even more drool-worthy in person. Beyond the piercing blue eyes and tousled dark hair, there is something else that draws her to him. Something…electric. Too bad he acts like he hates her.

When Selena learns she’s being targeted by a force bigger and darker than anything she ever imagined, she’s had enough. Despite her death dream, Selena is not going to give up easily, especially when she discovers that Dillan isn’t what he seems…and might not actually hate her after all. Dillan might be the only person who can save her.

Pub. Date: March 4, 2014

 Find it: GoodreadsAmazon, B&N, iBookstore

Donna Pierce might hear voices, but that doesn’t mean she’s crazy. Probably.

The voices do serve their purpose, though—whenever Donna hears them, she knows she’s in danger. So when they start yelling at the top of their proverbial lungs, it’s no surprise she and her best friend, Deke, end up narrowly escaping a zombie horde. Alone without their families, they take refuge at their high school with the super-helpful nerds, the bossy class president, and—best of all?—Liam, hottie extraordinaire and Donna’s long-time crush. When Liam is around, it’s easy to forget about the moaning zombies, her dad’s plight to reach them, and how weird Deke is suddenly acting toward her.

But as the teens’ numbers dwindle and their escape plans fall apart, Donna has to listen to the secrets those voices in her head have been hiding. It seems not all the zombies are shuffling idiots, and the half-undead aren’t really down with kids like Donna…

REVIEW - How to Date a Nerd by Cassie Mae

Title: How to Date a Nerd
Author: Cassie Mae
Series: How To #1
Publisher: Swoon Romance
Release date: September 22nd 2013
Genres: YA Contemporary Romance
Links: Goodreads / Amazon
Source: Bought ebook

Summary:
Zoe has a great pair of legs, perky boobs, and wears exactly what she needs to show it all off. She works hard for the easy sleazy ‘you only wish you were me’ reputation, burying who she really is—an all-out nerd.

The only time Zoe gets to be herself is when she hides under her comforter to read X-Men comics, sending jealousy stabs at everyone who attends Comic-Con. Keeping up her popular rep is too important, and she’s so damn insecure to care about the consequences. But when Zoe’s sister takes her car for a ‘crash and burn into a tree’ joyride, her parents get her a replacement. A manual. Something she doesn’t know how to operate, but her next door neighbor Zak sure as heck does.

Zak’s a geek to the core, shunned by everyone in school for playing Dungeons and Dragons at lunch and wearing “Use the Force” t-shirts. And Zoe’s got it bad for the boy. Only Zak doesn’t want Popular Zoe. He wants Geek Zoe.

She has to shove her insecurities and the fear of dropping a few rungs on the social ladder aside to prove to Zak who she really is and who she wants to be… if she can figure it out herself.

4/5

This book was just all kinds of cute! So much nerd love!

How to Date a Nerd tells the story of Zoe, a girl who was so cruelly bullied in middle school for being a nerd that she reinvented herself when she started high school, burying her nerdiness away and becoming Popular Zoe, who, for lack of a better word, was a bit of a bitch. I was worried I wasn't gonna like her but I actually found myself really connecting with her and really liking her. Even though she has turned into someone not nice, and I wanted to slap her upside the head a couple times, I completely understood why she did it. Many of us have at one point or another hidden our real selves, fearing being laughed at and humiliated. I felt so bad for Zoe for what she went through. I really wish kids weren't such assholes and just let others be. Because seriously? Geek Zoe is fricking awesome! Her inner monologue was hilarious! I could so see myself being BFFs with her. I just wanted to jump into my kindle, hug her and tell her that being a geek is nothing to be ashamed of. I found myself tearing up a few times when she was at a low point. But then what she did at the end of the book? Hell yeah! You go girl! I loved it! A brilliant ending.

Now on to Zak. Oh my god can I have one? Like seriously he is just adorable! Him and Zoe are made for each other. They are so cute and geeky together, I just love it. He could be so awkward at times but I just loved him even more.
The book is very well written, the writing flows smoothly and it is so easy to read. I would have finished it in one sitting if that pesky little thing called life didn't get in the way.

Cassie Mae is quickly becoming my go to author for when I need something light and fun to read. While humorous, adorable, and packed full of nerdy awesomeness, this book is also a touching tale, with a great message to be yourself, no matter what other people think. A must read! I really can't wait for book 2, How To Seduce a Band Geek. Looking forward to more of Levi :)

GUEST POST:
How HEAD ABOVE WATER was born…

I’m often asked how I come up with the ideas for my stories, and I never quite know how to answer that. Stories and characters come to me a lot of different ways. Sometimes characters just pop into my head with personalities and pasts all intact. Then it’s just a matter of coming up with a plot that will work for that unique individual. Other times a show I’m watching or book I’m reading will spur on an idea. Or a life experience of mine will fuel a storyline. Oftentimes, though, it’s a combination of a lot of these things which form into one idea.
However, this book was different. I know the exact moment I came up with the storyline for this book. It was last summer and I had brought my kids to the gym. My daughter was swimming, my son was in the basketball court playing a basketball game, and I was laying out by the pool reading a book. I looked up from the pages to check on my daughter and my gaze landed on a teenage couple in the water. The guy was teaching the girl to swim. I was mesmerized. He was so kind and tender with her as he held her in the water. I found myself wondering about them. What was their story? Why didn’t she know how to swim? What was their relationship like?
And just like that HEAD ABOVE WATER took shape in my mind. I wanted to write a story about a love like that. About a boy who would teach his girlfriend to swim with encouragement and gentleness. The couple in the book looks nothing like the couple at the gym, and I never did find out their story, so any similarities would just be coincidences. But that couple definitely inspired me.
With the basics of the story in my mind I set out to come up with characters and Tag and Harper came very easily. Their back stories, secrets and tainted pasts took time. In fact, I didn’t learn of Tag’s until halfway through the rough draft, but that is typical for me.
The idea for this book has been brewing since last summer, and it’s amazing to finally see it come to life.
